Carlisle City Council would like to remind people that microchipping your pet and keeping your details up to date gives them the best chance of being identified and returned to you if they ever become lost or stolen.

It is also a legal requirement to have any dog over the age of eight weeks microchipped.

Microchipping is only effective if you keep your details up to date. If you move to a new house or change your telephone number, you must make sure that you tell the database you're registered with so that they have your up-to-date contact details.

Cllr Nigel Christian, Portfolio holder for Environment and Transport, said: "The court prosecutions serve as a reminder that we will take action against those that don’t follow the law.

“We all want to keep Carlisle clean and live within a safe environment.”
