A convoy of lorries, tractors, and classic cars rolled through Cumbrian towns to raise money for charity.

The Cumbria Charity Convoy, which was raising money for the Great North Air Ambulance and the Cancer Centre at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary, drove through several places throughout the county on Saturday, October 1.

One such place was Penrith, where they were spotted by the many shoppers who were out at the time.

The route, which started and finished at Penrith Auction Mart, included several destinations.

Cars drove through Shap, Kendal, Newby Bridge, Greenodd, Torver, Ambleside, and Keswick.

Lorries drove through Shap, Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside, Keswick, Cockermouth, and Carlisle.

Tractors drove through Langwathby, Glassonby, Kirkoswald, Armathwaite, High Hesket, Calthwaite, Unthank, and Laithes, before the two other convoys joined them back to the auction mart in Penrith.

Paul Grindley, who took the photos which are featured, said: “The trucks and tractors, in particular, were certainly a spectacular sight as they made their way up Middlegate in Penrith, with Saturday afternoon shoppers getting quite a shock and reaching for their phones to record the sight, the trucks also added to the occasion, by flashing their lights and blasting their airhorns so everyone knew they were approaching.

“They were also holding an after show party at Julian's Bower in Clibburn (that night) with music by Carlisle based band 3 River City.”

Paul added that one lorry in particular is worth a mention.

It is a special Scania S650 belonging to WS Transportation.

He said: “It is bearing a different colour scheme to the company’s normal trucks.

“The company is owned by William Stobart and not only is its number plate 22WS, it is also named ‘Newlands Pride’ with Newlands being the place at Hesket Newmarket where Eddie Stobart started what was to become the internationally known haulage company of the same name.”
