A Carlisle pastry wizard is swapping the kitchen for Carlisle's Cakes & Ale Cafe as she is set to discuss her latest book.
Julie Jones, who has worked with Jamie Oliver, won the Observer Food Monthly best Instagram feed and been named as one of the country's most influential bakers by Waitrose Food Magazine, will be coming to the well-loved cafe on November 4 to discuss her new book Art in Pastry whilst offering lessons on how to perfectly decorate a pie.
Julie Jones is a wonderful Carlisle success story. A trained chef, Julie is a wonderful Carlisle success story. The author realised she couldn't pursue the demands of a top flight culinary career whilst caring for her young family and her Mother, who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of dementia.
Instead, she started using her baking skills as a form of therapy with her Mum; spending hours together in the kitchen creating pastry sensations.
These emotional moments and the beautiful creations they made led Julie to huge popularity on Instagram and to the publication of her first book Soulful Baker
The baker is now the author of three cookery books; Soulful Baker, The Pastry School and Art in Pastry and has over 182k followers on Instagram.
“I think the process of making any type of pastry is a soothing process. The time and patience it takes is the perfect time to unwind and be in the moment. I have experienced and seen the calming and therapeutic effects that pastry making has, and I recommend pie making to anyone that just wants to forget the world, at least for a while," she said.
At £10 a ticket, the evening will include a cocktail from Tipsy Filly, pie decorating demonstration and £5 off purchase of the book.
Tickets are available via Bookends on 01228 529067 or www.bookscumbria.com.
