Readers have been sharing their thoughts after work has begun for a ‘reimagined’ market square in Carlisle.
Carlisle residents and businesses will be asked to have their say on how the city centre’s Market Square and Greenmarket could look in the future later this year.
A public consultation is planned and follows from the stage-one consultation held in the summer.
Carlisle City Council and Cumbria County Council are working together to deliver a ‘reimagined’ public square that the city council says puts people first, prioritising pedestrian movement and encouraging residents, workers, and visitors to stay longer in the city centre, bringing new leisure and cultural uses to the heart of Carlisle.
Here’s what readers had to say.
Louise Lewis said: “They could start by saving and preserving our beautiful Turkish Baths - one of the cities most historic buildings.”
Liam Harrison said: “I'm glad I'm moving to Wales next week, I can't deal with the idiot council decisions here anymore.”
Liz Paris said: “Need to get some more retailers into the city centre to fill the empty shops or they'll be no reason to go into the city centre for people, unless you want a coffee.”
