A NEW interactive map shows that Carlisle has the lowest average of disposable household income within Cumbria. 

The map, published by the Office for National Statistics, allows users to explore how gross disposable household income (GDHI) per head has varied among local authorities throughout the country between 1997 and 2020.

Gross disposable household income (GDHI) is the amount of money that all the individuals in the household sector have available for spending or saving after they have paid direct and indirect taxes and received any direct benefits. 

 

In 2020, Carlisle has a GDHI of £18,524 per head, with Allerdale presenting a figure of £19,206 and Copeland indicating £19,327 when it comes to GDHI. 

Heading south however, the GDHI presents a higher average, with Eden showing a figure of £21,250 per head and South Lakeland topping GDHI throughout the county with a figure that stands at £24,303 per head. 

In 2020, gross disposable household income per head in the UK fell 0.2 per cent when compared with 2019. 

Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham was the local area with the highest GDHI per head (£60,277), nearly three times the UK average - with Nottingham having the lowest at £13,952. 

Across the North West collectively, the average stood at £18,900 per head.
