WHETHER it's baking that takes your fancy or losing yourself in a good book, one of Carlisle's most beloved cafes is certainly the place to be next month.
Carlisle's Cakes & Ale Cafe, on Castle Street, will be home to three 'very different' female-led author talks throughout November.
Carlisle's famous pastry wizard, Julie Jones will be first in the line-up on November 4, when she will be discussing her new book Art in Pastry whilst offering lessons on how to perfectly decorate a pie.
Lucy Matthews, of Bookends, said: "We're really looking forward to hosting three very different events in November; firstly Carlisle's extraordinary pastry chef Julie Jones will be joining us for a chat, cocktails and pie decorating. We've never offered people the chance to decorate pies at a book event before so it's an absolute pleasure! We know Julie and she's lovely to chat to and has a lot fans in Carlisle too."

Following on from Julie, on November 10 Liz Hyder will be coming to the cafe to discuss her latest book The Gifts.
"Liz Hyder will be discussing her first adult novel which I'm reading and really enjoying - it's set in Victorian England and tells the tale of a young woman who grows angelic wings and becomes the victim of the unwanted attentions of a sinister surgeon from London. The characters are fantastic and it's a very vivid and readable book so it will be great out a bit more about the inspiration behind it, " Lucy said.
Finally, Sandra Howard, who was one of the leading fashion models of the 1960s, will be returning to Carlisle to discuss her latest novel Love At War, which is based on letters detailing the wartime experiences of a young woman from Edinburgh.
Sandra will be joined by BBC Radio Cumbria's Helen Millican in the cafe on November 25.
"Sandra has had such an interesting and high profile life and it's always fascinating to hear her talk," she said.
All tickets are available via www.bookscumbria.com, which all come with a complimentary drink on the evening, or the option to have the book included at a discounted rate.
