WITH just over a week until Halloween it's time to explore why Cumbria can be labelled the spooky soul of the UK...
Here's five reasons why Cumbria can be considered the Halloween capital of the UK this year.
1. Honister Slate Mine's spooky movie showings
Around this time of year, film lovers watch their favourite horror flicks. However, not many can say that they will be viewing the classics in a mine.
This Halloween Honister Slate Mine will be offering just that opportunity with showings of chilling staples The Woman in Black, The Conjuring, Sinister, and The Shining.
Underground. In the dark.
2. Munster Castle Halloween Festival
Today marks the beginning of the Munster Halloween Festival where Cumbrians will come together to embrace the spine-chilling season.
The historic Munster Castle will come to life with Cumbrian Halloween spirit at the event which takes place between Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 30 will feature a Zombie shootout, Fire show and Halloween Parade.
3. Community Trick or Treating
Villages and towns from all over the county will be coming together to celebrate the frightening festivities as families embark on their annual trick or treating or attend one of the numerous Halloween events taking place across the county.
The Lanes Shopping Centre will be holding just one of these events with families being invited to their Halloween Trail and Craft session on Saturday, Ocotber 29.
4. Whitehaven Beacon Museum hosts Halloween
Whitehaven's will also be hosting a number of phantomtastic Halloween events over the half-term with haunted house making, pumpkin lantern creating and 'creepy' pet sessions billed to bring the Halloween fear factor to Cumbria.
5. Cumbria's Halloween haunting
According to the 'UK Haunted Locations Database' Cumbria is teaming with paranormal guests who have been spotted all over the county, with Carlisle alone recording eight reported sightings.
This Halloween, those brave enough can go searching for some of Cumbria's ghouls when Carlisle Castle hosts its ghost tours.
The tours which will take place between Friday, October 28 and Monday, October 31 will allow those daring enough to go searching for the paranormal to experience a historical Halloween... filled with horrors from the past...
