A CINEMA club is hosting a special Halloween event in a new location.
Carlisle Cult Cinema Club, run by Paul Donaldson, has been run for over five years in Harraby Community Theatre, but now it is going to take place in The Source in Denton Holme.
Paul Donaldson said: “For the first five years we were at the Harraby Community Theatre and we’ve screened 60 films.
"We’re just moving to The Source on October 29 which will be our first film showed there.”
This is to mark Halloween which, for the club, has always been a time where a big event takes place, usually a double-bill and fancy dress, along with a raffle.
Paul explained his passion for films and where it comes from: “I’ve had a lifelong love of cinema, and cult cinema especially.
“I’ve always been a massive horror film fan, I like the movies to be a little but leftfield and a little bit different, whether that be something like Holy Mountain to Abbott and Costello Meets Frankenstein, I'll watch just about anything.”
He said the fascination with Halloween particularly started as a child: “I always took a day off work or a day off school, I watched films from 8am to midnight, but now I don't work and I’m basically bedridden, I get to watch films 24/7, I’ve got a podcast that is going well, and I’m often on the phone to LA talking to directors and writers to get them in.
“I've even had David Quantick who wrote for Veep on the podcast, he's been a friend for a while.”
Phil lives with a condition called Transverse Myelitis and has done for the past few years, making mobility difficult and, as a result, is needing an electric wheelchair to continue operating with a sense of independence.
A fundraiser to get an electric wheelchair for him has been started, currently at $4,145 of its £6,000 goal.
At The Source, a 200-inch cinema screen awaits for the Halloween event, where they will be showing Killer Clowns from Outer Space.
Phil said fancy dress is optional, but there will be some killer clowns present – so watch your backs!
It costs £5 on the door, which also gets you into a raffle.
Doors open at 7pm for an 8pm start, with free pizza on offer in the intermission before the next film, Return of the Living Dead.
