A competition on Twitter to find the region’s favourite Cumbrian word from the area’s unique dialect has found this year’s winner.
'Eh' narrowly beat 'awez' to win the Cumbria Cup of Words for the first time.
Initially conceived as a one-off event, this is the sixth time the competition has been run, with previous winners including 'awez', 'deeks' and 'shan'.
The competition this year was the largest ever, with 64 Cumbrian dialect words originally drawn into 16 groups of four.
'Eh' beat 'ladgeful' by quite a wide margin to reach the final, whilst former winner 'awez' scraped through by beating 'cowie' by 53 per cent to 47 per cent of the vote.
The competition had previously been run as a one-day special event but due to its growing popularity and scale was transformed into a weeklong event with the final happening on Sunday evening.
Organiser Rob Morely said: “People just love the competition and it’s got bigger and bigger every year.”
