CCTV FOOTAGE played a crucial role in proving that Kane Hull and Liam Porter were responsible for the horrific murder of Ryan Kirkpatrick.
Throughout the trial, prosecutors showed the jury footage of key moments – including the defendants arriving at Carlyle’s Court at 8.46pm, their faces hidden by hoods and masks and their hurried departure barely a minute later.
A forensic image analyst confirmed that – despite the attempt by the killers to hide their identity – the two men wore clothes which were identical to those worn by Hull and Porter during their earlier visit to Carlyle’s Court.
In both visits, Hull was seen to be wearing no socks. The build and height of the men seen in both visits to the location were also identical. Porter's jacket had a distinctive vertical grey patches.
Importantly, after the stabbing, as the killers ran through out of Carlyle's Court, towards Fisher Street, Hull’s hood slipped, revealing his distinctive balding head.
Other footage showed the defendants arriving in the city centre in a distinctive blue Volvo S40.
The images helped track the movements in minute detail on the night of the stabbing.
There was also footage from the Royal Scot pub in Morton, showing Hull and Porter immediately before they set off for the city centre.
The video above shows Hull running into Carlyle's Court, with the knife in his left hand. Porter follows.
A minute later, they are both recorded running back the way they came.
