A warm hub will officially open later this month in a North Cumbrian town.

Brampton Parish Council announced its Moot Hall will become a warm hub from Monday, October 31, at 9am.

A spokesperson from Brampton Parish Council said: “If you find yourself struggling with heating/food costs and/or social isolation, please come along and you will be given a warm welcome.

“Hot drinks will be available free of charge and a microwave and sandwich toaster will be available for you to warm your own food and/or toast your own sandwich.

“There will be newspapers, magazines, books, jigsaws etc to keep you occupied and a friendly face if you want to chat.

“Advice will be available on cost-of-living support.

“Thank you to those who have already volunteered for the project.

“We currently have 12 volunteers and opening times will be Monday to Thursday 9am to 4pm.”

Two of the volunteers are Gary and Angie from the Brampton Acting Together Group who will be bringing information on local resilience.

The council also thanked those who have helped get the project off the ground, namely Belted Will Lodge which donated £500, Cumbria County Council which also donated £500 via Cllr Mike Mitchelson, Cumbria Community Foundation which donated £1k, and Lowther Used Furniture Warehouse which donated two side tables.

The council said these days/hours could be extended with more volunteers.
