HUNGRY punters were queuing out of the door on Monday lunchtime at Carlisle’s newest food outlet.
The brand-new Cumbria Roast Company opened its doors on Fisher Street in Carlisle to serve the finest home cooked roast dinners in baguettes and Yorkshire pudding wrap.
Customers can enjoy beef brisket, pork shoulder, turkey breast and thigh all either served in a baguette or Yorkshire pudding with stuffing, seasonal vegetables and gravy.
Customers can either sit in or takeaway with a range of hot and cold drinks, including gourmet milkshakes, also available to buy.
Business was booming as I joined a large queue of hungry folk eager to try Carlisle’s newest eatery.
When I reached the front, I ordered a pulled beef brisket with horseradish sauce eight-inch Yorkshire pudding wrap.
The service was excellent and despite the busy lunchtime, the food was served quickly so I sat down in the newly-refurbished building to try my wrap.
First and foremost, the food was delicious. The beef was tender and melt in your mouth, the gravy was rich and full of flavour, the vegetables were perfectly cooked, and all wrapped up in a perfect Yorkshire pudding – what’s not to love?
The packed wrap - full of quality - was £7.25, which I was happy to pay for a lunchtime treat and you feel you're getting your money's worth.
The new eatery is owned and run by Pamela and David Haddock who had great rapport with queuing customers as they waited for their first taste of the new menu.
David has been a chef at some of Carlisle’s biggest hotels including the Crown and Mitre and Crosby Lodge Hotel towards the north of the city alongside touring the region’s markets with a food van.
As I left, an even larger queue had formed onto the street outside and the buzz created by this new food outlet was palpable.
Carlisle may have a new favourite lunch spot.
