A CARLISLE out of school club received an early 16th birthday present this week - in the form of a ‘good’ rating by schools’ inspector, Ofsted.

Ali’s Out of School Club, founded this week in 2006 at Inglewood Nursery and Infant School, was inspected last month and received a glowing report from the inspector which praised members of staff and the fun environment.

The club, which runs before and after school provides a fun and supportive environment for children aged between 3 and 11 from 7.30am until 5.30pm.

The club also opens up during the holidays as part of Cumbria holiday access fund and offers a place for children on free school meals who may otherwise go hungry during the holidays.

“Children settle with ease in this warm and nurturing holiday, before and after school club,” the report said.

“Children's needs are seamlessly woven into the club's activities. The consistency of staff ensures that children feel safe and secure.

“They confidently talk about their day and how they are feeling. Staff know the children well and conversations are closely linked to children's interests and what is important to them.

“Leaders are passionate about providing a happy, safe, secure and friendly environment for children to enjoy. They have clear aims for the club and want children to learn the skills they require for later life.

“Children thoroughly enjoy the wide range of activities on offer in the club and are enthusiastic to participate. They spend a considerable amount of time outdoors, taking part in a wealth of physical activities that keep them active, healthy and energised.”

Headteacher of Inglewood Infant School, Deborah Boekestein said: “We’re extremely proud of our grading as we provide a great service and work really hard to maintain it.

“We’re very enthusiastic and passionate and the out of school club is just a very happy place.”
