A WHOLE host of event's will tak place at the end of this month as Workington welcomes Christmas back to town with a spectacular light switch on event.
This year’s Workington Christmas Festival and Light Switch On promises to be the best one yet.
It will take place on Saturday, November 26 from 11am to 5pm in Workington town centre, and everyone is welcome to come along. Visitors can look forward to plenty of festive family entertainment, a Christmas market, and a day of live music.
The Mayor of Workington will start proceedings at 10.45am from the main stage, located in Marks and Spencers’ car park. Throughout the day, a selection of live acts, managed by HMV Workington, will perform to get everyone in the Christmas mood.
Families can enjoy high quality entertainment, including a fun fair, magic shows, face painting, gingerbread workshops, soft play, puppet shows, science booth workshops, pet encounter, walkabout characters and the popular giant snow globe. A visit to Santa’s grotto at the old Vision Express store is sure to get little ones ready for a great Christmas.
A lantern parade, led by the Carnegie Singers, will depart from Workington Leisure Centre at 4.30pm and make its way to the main stage in the Marks and Spencers’ car park. People are invited to join a Lantern making workshop in Moorclose Community Centre from 1pm-4pm on Saturday 19th November, or just join in the parade.
The workshop is free and participants can pop in on the day or drop Workington Town Council an email at office@workingtontowncouncil.gov.uk to book their place.

At 5pm, the festival will close with the light switch on by the Mayor and her Christmas card competition winners.
Mayor Denise Rollo, commented, “This year’s Christmas festival and light switch will be the best yet. We would like to thank Allerdale Borough Council for providing free parking in the multi-storey car park from 12pm on the day, Washington Square Shopping Centre for their donation towards the Christmas Lights, Dobies Charitable Trust for their donation towards the entertainment and HMV Workington for the stage programming.
The last few years have been difficult for us all, so let’s get together and make it a day to remember.”
