Thousands were raised for charity thanks to a road running event.
Wigton Road Runners, a running club for all abilities, held a 10k charity run in late October that raised thousands of pounds for a good cause.
The road runners invited the mayor of Wigton, Christopher Scott, to the event to start the race and to present the trophies.
The event was organised by Linda Brown as well as Michelle Barron, both of whom are active members of the Wigton Road Runners group.
Futamura, a Japanese business that makes cling film and has a base in Wigton, sponsored the race.
The law firm Armstrong Watson also made a generous donation, and the local Coop donated the necessary water and bananas.
On top of this, Dennis Graham provided the trophies that were awarded to the winners of the race, and the café Liz’s Country Kitchen provided the cake, soup, and sausage rolls at the end to raise extra funds.
Wigton Town Council supported the running event by allowing the Wigton Road Runners to use the Baton Laws as a base
Melissa French, from Wigton, also raised £300 of sponsor money and there was also a JustGiving fundraising website that, in total, raised £2,673.78 FOR Prostate Cancer UK, a charity that works to raise awareness of the disease and also to find a cure.
The winning male was 15-year-old Ben Nutter, who finished his 10k in 36 minutes and 38 seconds.
The winning female was Lucy Stobbart, who finished in 40 minutes and 45 seconds.
