A theatre is putting on a variety production with a modern touch.
Wigton’s John Peel theatre will be putting on a production that they say promotes the best of Cumbrian talent and some funny, compelling stories
The ever-inventive team will put on a show featuring Cumbrian dialect poetry, Cumberland clog dancing, a sketch of Wordsworth desperately trying to be an angry young man, deadly deeds on Helvellyn, and local choirs.
They also say audiences will finally get to know the truth about Hadrian’s Wall.
This new production, called Cumberland Crack, follows on from a recent production of Romeo and Juliet, of which a spokesperson from the theatre said: “We’ve just finished a very successful run of Romeo and Juliet, which we would describe as a contemporary take on the classical story.
“Featuring simplified text, a simple but effective balcony and ‘black box’ set with striking lighting scenes and effects we aimed to make Shakespeare accessible for everyone, not just those who can sit and understand the language used.
“Our cast featured some of our younger members as the Montagues’ and Capulets’ servants, as well as some of our more experienced members.
“The show sold incredibly well, and we sold out Friday night.”
Cumberland Crack runs from November 24 to 26.
Tickets cost £9.
