A MAN has died whilst walking in the Lake District with friends on Saturday afternoon (November 12).
Wasdale Mountain Rescue were alerted to the situation of an 'unresponsive walker' on Whin Rigg by Cumbria Police at around 12:40pm.
The Maritime Coastguard Agency and Great North Air Ambulance were also called, but later stood down.
A spokesperson from Wasdale Mountain Rescue said: "Tragically, all the efforts of the walker’s friends, passers by, and those of the helimed crew were unable to help and the walker did not survive.
"The team brought him back down to the valley, accompanied by his friends, where he was given over to the care of the police.
"Our thanks to all the other agencies involved, and especially to the people who stopped to help. We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends," they said.
