A POPULAR Lake District trail remains closed in part more than two weeks after it was damaged by bad weather.

The popular Keswick to Threlkeld Trail is still closed between Wescoe Bridge and Threlkeld closed at the start of the month due to a fallen tree that blocked the route following bad weather in the county.

Inspection teams found that parts of the bridge had been damaged and part of the bank over the trail had become 'potentially unstable'.

The public have been warned to stay away from the area which is 'currently dangerous'.

A spokesman for the Lake District National Park Authority said: "This area is currently dangerous, and we will be carrying out the necessary bank protection work next week.

"In the meantime, for your safety please do not attempt to bypass the safety barriers and take notice of the information signs.

"Thank you for your ongoing patience. We will update you on the reopening date as soon as we can."
