SANTA Claus will be visiting Carlisle on weekends running up to Christmas in his very own pop-up shopping centre grotto.

The festive seasons biggest VIP, Father Christmas and his Elves will greet children in his Grotto and hear what exciting gifts they would like to open on Christmas Day.

Open every Saturday and Sunday from November 26 until December 18, the event will raise money for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw Children’s Hospice.

With a recommended donation of £3 per child, 100 per cent of the funds collected will be donated to the local charities.

From stilt walking and hula hooping Elves to a visit from the mischievous Grinch and Cindy Lou, there will be a fabulous atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

The Rainbow Elves from Rainbow Wishes Foundation, a local community interest company, will also make several weekend appearances to entertain shoppers and those waiting to see Santa.

Local community group StagedRight will also wow the crowds with their fabulous performances.

And, local choral and musical groups, Cartmell Shepherd Choir, Raffles School Choir, the Cathedral Cantate Choir and the Border Concert Band will all perform some Christmas classics for customers during December.

Mark Nott, centre manager at The Lanes said: “Were really excited for the Christmas season this year. We have loads of fun family entertainment lined up to ensure everyone who visits The Lanes will have a great trip out.  We know how much children love to see Father Christmas and the Grotto will offer a wonderful festive space for children and families to enjoy.”
