A CUMBRIAN artist has recalled how he was inpsired by climate science.
At a recent Christmas event at the Arts Society Cumbria in Cockermouth, Lionel Playford delivered a lecture titled: 'Art and Climate Science: A Matter of Perspective.'
The landscape artist recounted his experiences of collaboration with climate change scientists working in a variety of areas, from peat bogs in Cumbria to expeditions to the Antarctic and the Atlantic Ocean.
This stage of Mr Playford's career was inspired by partnerships with climate scientists whilst based at the University of Northumbria in the 1990s.
"The scientists reconstruct the past in order to make predictions about climate change in the future", explained Lionel.
Since then Mr Playford has used his art to try and create pictures that reflect on the work done by these climate scientists and has had this work exhibited at the likes of the University of Northumbira, Brantwood, Coniston and the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick.
Looking back over the last decade at the Cockermouth event, Mr Playford concluded that the most important change is the understanding of climate change that has been brought about by science.
