I RECENTLY visited a large garden centre near Carlisle looking for a Nativity set and despite my efforts, although I didn’t ask for help, was unable to find one.
Additionally, none of the Advent calendars showed anything resembling the true meaning of Christmas.
When mentioning this to another church-going friend, her experience that she had asked an assistant in another garden centre near Carlisle “Have you got any Nativity sets?” to which the response was “What’s Nativity?” and went to ask another colleague who equally had no idea what a Nativity set was!
This apparent lack of knowledge of the birth of Our Saviour Jesus Christ really makes one wonder whether England can still call itself a Christian country.
