FOR this Nostalgia we will be taking another look back at the year 1989.
We are now over thirty years on from this time and a lot has changed in Cumbria and the rest of the world.
This was the year that the gaming giant Nintendo released the Game Boy and Sky TV was launched in the UK.
It was also the year that 250 people were arrested for celebrating the summer solstice at Stonehenge and a 4,400-year-old mummy is found in the Great Pyramid of Giza.
But what was happening here in Cumbria? Here at the News & Star we've found some of the best photos from this year which illustrate what life was like at this time.
Our first photo shows representatives from Carlisle Glass presenting a cheque at the Cumbrian Bike Ride, an event they were sponsoring. We can also see a lady called Fiona Armstrong about to taste one of the entries in the Farmhouse Cookery competition at Newton Rigg.
Our third photo shows the Brampton Pensioners Party that year whilst our fourth shows Carlisle RLFC take on Workington in a local derby game.
We can also see a photo of the Wigton Ladies Circle present a cheque for £800 to the Wishing Well Appeal and Legwarmers for Lungs: an exercise class at the Civic Centre to help kick the smoking habit.
Another photo shows the new Captain of Carlisle Golf Club in 1989 supported by Clun members whilst another shows the Trinity School Synchronised Swimming Team.
Our last photo shows the delighted winner of the News & Star competition accepting her prize.
We hope that you enjoyed this trip down memory lane, let us know if you are in any of these photos or know the people who are.
