SOME high profile celebrities have been showing support for the Danica's Dream Fund charity.

In the past the charity has sent off wristbands to celebrities who have shared pictures of themselves wearing them on Twitter.

This time around, the celebrities all have a link to Christmas time; they include Shane McGowan who sung the iconic Christmas song 'Fairytale in New York' and Noddy Holder from Slade who has a famous Christmas single.

Some of the other celebrities included Clean Bandit who are usually on the Christmas Special of Top of the Pops and Aled Jones who sang 'Walking in the Air' from the Christmas cartoon 'The Snowman'.

Mark Andrews of Danica's Dream Fund said: "It's good because it's getting the word out there and it's good that they do it themselves and it doesn't cost the charity anything.

"I contact the celebrities on Twitter and they agree to do it it's just the cost of a stamp to send the wristband off to them and once they post it on social media their fans will see it and it gets the word out there giving the charity some recognition.

"I spend some time contacting these celebrities and a lot of them are really helpful.

"A lot of the celebrities have started following our page and also their fans who have said that they want to wear the wristbands also. These have been sent off to people also.

"This helps to get the word out in two ways and we're getting more donations from people that we don't know. So we assume that these donations are coming in from people who've seen the tweets by celebrities so it works that way."

Danica Maxwell, an Egremont school girl, decided before she passed away that she wanted to help other people who had the same condition as her.

The RVI in Newcastle connect young people and children with serious illnesses to the charity.

They then give them a donation, and this could help them with whatever the family needs.
