In this Nostalgia edition we will be taking you all the way back to the mid 1930s.

Very few people will be around now who remember this era and looking back at these photos it is like a whole different world than the one we now today.

However, just like present day there was an awful lot going on up here in Cumbria and the rest of the world was truly bustling.

This was an era when the first technicolor Mickey Mouse short film is released and Sir Malcolm Campbell broke the 300 mph barrier to set a new land speed world record.

It was also a time when BCC first broadcasted on public television and the book Gone With The Wind was published.

There was also quite a lot happening back here in Cumbria too. We hope that you enjoy this trip back almost 90 years to a whole different era than we're familiar with today.

Our first photo shows children at Bransty School in Whitehaven at the time of the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary in 1935. Whilst the second photo shows the winners of a fancy dress parade for the Jubilee celebrations that same year.

We can also see the Ironworks AFC team posing for a photo in 1935 and Broughton Brass Band in the carnival of that year parading on the main street. In our fifth photo we can also see a group of young boys who were part of the YMCA in Whitehaven.

Another two of our photos show a group of girls who were part of the Arlecdon netball team in 1936 winning a trophy and Marks and Spencers opening its Workington store that same year, which is still very popular today. Our last photo shows the North Lonsdale Hospital around the same time.
