Our readers have responded to a 'great opportunity' for the redevelopment of a 'prime site' in Carlisle, which was formerly home to the city's Central Plaza Hotel.
Carlisle City Council, in partnership with property consultant CBRE, is seeking proposals to redevelop the site in Carlisle’s city centre.
The ‘Citadel View’ site was formerly home to the Central Plaza Hotel which was demolished and cleared during 2020.
Carlisle City Council has now secured UK Government’s Future High Street funding to help facilitate the redevelopment of the site.
Here's what you had to say.
Gill Banks said: "Please can we have something architecturally significant rather than the production line ‘designs’ that prevail?"
Lynn Graham said: "A scattergun approach to both preservation and development."
Angela Bannister said: "There seems to be an abundance of money in the funds. They should surely look after our existing assets first ie the Turkish Baths as one example."
Approximately 3,000 students will be based at the University of Cumbria's new Citadels Campus, immediately opposite this site, with completion expected in 2026.
£50 million funding is being provided for this new campus from the Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal.
