A WORRIED parent feared a child could have been killed as a lorry shed its load with an ‘almighty crash’ near a primary school on Tuesday morning
Police asked drivers to avoid the area around the bridge in Seaton at Main Road, near Lowca Lane and Causeway Road, after the incident.
A dad who was dropping his daughter off at Seaton Academy, said: “There was an almighty crash. All the parents dashed out of the school.
“The bang – I have never heard anything like it. If a parent or child had been on that pavement, they would have been killed outright.
“Thank God no one was hurt or killed.”
Robert Barton, headteacher at Seaton Acaemy, said: "At 8:50am this morning I was in school, and heard a loud bang from outside.
"We went to see what had happened and could see two large containers had fallen off the back of a lorry. It became clear the lorry had collided with the bridge and the containers had fallen off.
"We are aware of similar incidents, involving the bridge, in the past and we were just relieved to see that nobody was hurt. Staff helped with traffic management until the police arrived."
