AN iconic Canadian coffee shop chain has officially opened its newest shop in Cumbria today.

The new Tim Hortons cafe and drive-thru has now officially opened its doors at Kemplay Bank Roundabout on Bridge Lane in Penrith.

The first Tim Hortons site to open in Cumbria, it is now welcoming customers with its array of coffee, freshly baked doughnuts, and meals from 7am to 10pm, every day

To celebrate the opening, Tim Hortons gifted the first drive-thru customer with free drinks every day for a year.

Darcy Lee, a 19-year-old postman, was the first customer in the drive-thru queue having arrived at 5pm last night, while 18-year-old maintenance worker Kieran Adams also arrived at 5pm, braving the cold to claim his prize as the first walk-in customer.

They also gave away 100 free breakfast meals to the first 100 customers this morning.

Also as part of the opening celebrations, customers can also enjoy two special opening week offers.

These are a Christmas doughnut for 99p, available until December 18, and breakfast meals for £1.99, available until December 22.

Kevin Hydes, chief commercial officer of the Tim Hortons franchise in the UK, said: “We are delighted to open our first Tim Hortons site in Cumbria.

“It was an exciting moment to open the doors of our new Penrith restaurant and drive-thru today, just in time for the festive period.

“As a brand, we are continuing to pursue our plans for growth, with the aim of reaching our fans all across the UK, and so this opening is an important step in our expansion.
“The team has already had a busy morning since the doors opened at 7am, and we hope to see this demand continue as we celebrate the opening throughout the week.

“Make sure to come down and join in the fun with our opening promotions this week!”
