Cumbrians are being invited to take a dip in a lake for charity on New Year’s Day.
This is the first New Year’s Day Dip for the Lake District Calvert Trust, an outdoor centre for people with disabilities.
Sponsored by Alpkit, the Dip is taking place at Derwentwater at 11am on January 1, 2023.
Places are strictly limited to 200 and can be reserved in advance.
Yvonne Booth, fundraising officer for the Lake District Calvert Trust, said: “Our New Year’s Day Dip promises to be a great community event and we are inviting everyone to take the plunge - or at least dip their toe in.
“The fun will start at 11am and fancy dress is most definitely encouraged.
“Everyone taking part will also be treated to hot chocolate and cake courtesy of local outdoor retailer Alpkit of Keswick.”
Lake District Calvert Trust instructors and staff will be on hand at Derwentwater to make sure that all ‘dippers’ are kept safe.
Safety is paramount and the event is very much a “dip” rather than a serious swim.
Wetsuits and suitable footwear are recommended and safety boats will also be on hand.
Places are strictly limited to 200 and can be reserved in advance by visiting https://www.calvertlakes.org.uk/the-lake-district-calvert-trusts-new-years-day-fancy-dress-dip-2023/.
