Cumbrian Luke Greenbank finished fifth in the final of the men's 200m backstroke in the World Short-Course Swimming Championships.
The Cockermouth star made it safely through Sunday morning's heats with the sixth fastest time.
And Greenbank then competed in the final in Melbourne.
The Cumbrian, swimming in lane seven, was unable to make it onto the podium, as American Ryan Murphy took gold in a time of 1.47.41.
Silver was claimed by the USA's Shaine Casas with Italy's Lorenzo Mora winning bronze.
Greenbank's time of 1.49.79 put him just behind France's Yohan Ndoye-Brouard to finish in fifth position.
Double Olympic medallist Greenbank, 25, had previously competed in the men's 100m backstroke, going out in the semi-finals.
