Fire crews were called out to a property fire on Denton Street, in Carlisle on the evening of Sunday, December 18.
Carlisle East Fire Station said: "At 11pm last night crews from Carlisle East, Carlisle West, and Longtown, were called to a property fire on Denton Street.
"Crews discovered a well developed flat fire that had burnt through the floor to the flat below.
"The blaze was extinguished using 6 breathing apparatus wearers, hosereels, and a ventilation fan."
In order to help avoid fires, Carlisle East Fire Station are offering to fit new smoke detectors for free.
