DUE to 'severe weather conditions', rail services on the West Coast Mainline are being disrupted.
According to Avanti West Coast, an emergency speed restriction is in place on the West Coast Main Line between Carlisle and Glasgow/Edinburgh all day on Friday, December 30.
Avanti said: "Trains may be delayed by up to 90 minutes or cancelled. Major disruption is expected until the end of day."
Trains coming from that line towards Oxenholme Lake District have been cancelled, including services to Birmingham, London, Lancaster and Manchester.
An hourly service will operate between London and Preston.
One train every two hours from London will continue to Carlisle, where they'll operate a two-hourly service to Glasgow Central.
They will operate one train every four hours from Carlisle to Edinburgh. Journey times between Carlisle and Glasgow/Edinburgh will be extended by up to 75 minutes.
Customers with Avanti West Coast tickets for Friday, December 30 to and from Glasgow, Edinburgh Waverley, Lockerbie, Motherwell or Haymarket are advised to avoid travelling and claim a full refund as services are expected to be severely disrupted.
Customers who need to travel can use their tickets up until midday Saturday December 31 and are advised to check before travelling, expect disruption and significantly longer journey times.
Travelers can claim a full fee-free refund if the trains are delayed, cancelled or no longer wish to travel.
If travelers continue with their journey and are delayed by 15 minutes or more, you can claim Delay Repay compensation.
