A RENOWNED restaurant nestled on the English and Scottish border has just received a loving review from Cumbria's top food writer, Grace Dent.
Pentonbridge Inn, which sits in countryside close to the Scottish Border at Penton, near Carlisle, have said they are delighted to have received such an 'incredible and glowing' review in The Guardian.
The three-AA Rosettes restaurant was praised by the writer for making the sort of food that makes her 'giddy'.
Ms Dent applauded the warm and knowledgeable service, use of local ingredients, and a meal she thought was particularly special - North Sea cod loin combined with a 'fat unshelled langoustine draped over the top, [and] poached celeriac'.
Ross Bell, general manager, said the review highlights all the hard work put in by the team over the years.
"The whole team is thrilled to receive such an incredible and glowing review from Grace Dent for The Guardian. It highlights all the hard work by the entire Pentonbridge Inn Team.
"Head chef Christopher Archer and his kitchen team have worked tirelessly these past 12 months, retaining our 3 AA rosettes and this review has been an unexpected but delightful bonus to the end of our year.
"Such national recognition of the food we are producing is source of pride for everyone here," he said.
The restaurant-with-rooms’ set tasting menu features ingredients sourced from the restored walled garden of its sister business, Netherby Hall, a historic stately home four-and-a-half miles away at Longtown.
Chef Archer works closely with the garden team at Netherby Hall to source the fruit, herbs and vegetables for the seasonally-inspired dishes, as well as working with local suppliers from across Cumbria.
Pentonbridge Inn is open Wednesday to Saturday. The eight-course tasting menu costs £95. A five-course set lunch menu is also available.
"I hope to see even more from Pentonbridge Inn in 2023 and beyond, becoming a part of the fantastic Cumbrian food scene." Mr Bell added.
