A CARLISLE family are hoping for some 'brighter' news in 2023 after they found out that their baby boy's cancer has spread.

Parents to the one-year-old Jaxon, Andrew and Hayley Barnes, have said they have had to find a new normal following the 'one in a million' diagnosis of Jaxon's stage 3 Hepatoblastoma cancer earlier this year.

The latest chest CT scan revealed that Jaxon's cancer has spread to his left lung, meaning he will have to change chemotherapy as the original treatment is no longer having an effect.

The family's close friend, Stacey Weaver said: "There is a lot of uncertainty about a plan moving forward for the next few weeks, until all the doctors return from Christmas breaks and can properly assess the situation."

Specialists caring for Jaxon have contacted Canadian and American teams for their input in dealing with what has become a rare situation 'unseen before in a one-year-old'.

The family were hoping that Jaxon would be able to undergo a liver transplant but, it will no longer be possible until the cancer is under control and clear from his lung.

"This has been a set back that no one was hoping for," Stacey said.

"Despite this the family continue to show nothing but strength and love. We are all hoping 2023 brings brighter news, a new liver and that Jaxon will be cancer free."

A fundraiser has been set up in Jaxon's name by Stacey to help her friends try and reduce any additional financial costs.
