HAIRY Biker Dave Myers has appeared on BBC Breakfast ahead of the launch of his new TV series.
It was one of the first TV appearances for the chef since his cancer diagnosis earlier last year.
Updating viewers on his condition, he said: “I’ve been having treatment for cancer, it started in April.
“It is still ongoing, but I’m kind of doing alright and you know, like many people, it’s something that one learns to live with.
“But I’m delighted, my hair – I’ve got thicker hair than I had before I had the chemo.
“My wife said I look like Victor Hugo, and Kingy said I look like Billy Idol’s grandad!”
Dave sat on the BBC couch without his co-star Si King, who himself has made a number of solo appearances throughout Myers’ illness.
The pair have created a new series, Go Local, in which the pair travel around the UK on a mission to pair chefs with local suppliers.
“It’s an interesting series, it was an idea that came together,” said Dave. “A lot of chefs don’t really know what’s on their own doorstep.
“It’s a bit like speed dating but with food!”
When asked by the BBC presenters what is next for Dave, he explained that the latest Hairy Bikers book, Brilliant Bakes, was a ‘god send’ after chemotherapy began to wreak havoc on his taste.
He said: “I lost my taste for savoury food so thankfully doing a baking book was a bit of a god send.
“This year, I don’t know. I’m thinking about getting back to filming. The good old BBC has been brilliant with us. But it will have to fit in with treatment, so more books, more work hopefully and more sitting on your sofa.”
Go Local will kick off tonight with the first of eight episodes at 8pm on BBC2.
