A PLANNING application has been submitted to change the use of a former beauty salon to provide extra accommodation for a popular city centre hotel group.
The application, submitted by Burge Halston Ltd, if successful, aims to transform beauty rooms at 2 Cecil Street to accommodation associated with the Halston Hotel.
The move to expansion comes after what has been a successful year of increased demand for the business.
The application was submitted to Carlisle City Council on December 20 and was validated on January 3.
The 'exciting' proposals for 2 Cecil Street are part of a wider expansion and investment plan for the Halston during 2023 to 2025 - of which includes room refurbishments, additional accommodation and the opening of a brand new gym facility.
2 Cecil Street will be transformed into rooms making up for the perfect place for weddings, party accommodation, family get-togethers and weekend stays for groups of friends.
Simon Harrison, director of Halston Hotel & Homes and Harrison Northern, said the business has been on 'quite a journey' since buying the then former post office and derelict cinema back in 2011.
"The Halston opened its doors in 2014 after a major redevelopment and rapidly established itself as a top Cumbria food, function and accommodation provider, putting Carlisle back on the map for big events.
"We have never really slowed down since with the 2017 addition of the Halston Townhouses that also accommodates Yellow Jacket bar, House of Malt and Fine and Country estate agents.
"2 Cecil street is one of the last pieces of our jigsaw and will allow us to provide further unique and individual room suites that are particularly directed to the wedding and event market. One of the proposed bedroom suites is designed as a bridal room with roll top bath, hair studio and dressing room, 2 @ the Halston will be a special place for people to enjoy, relax and stay. Subject to approval it will add to our existing room offering by early summer.
"The Halston gym will be opening to guests and staff this month and then we are considering opening it to clients of ours who have bought from Halston Homes at Portland Square," he said.
The Halston's general manager, Yann Besombes, said: "I am very excited and look forward to welcoming our guests to Cecil street soon and provide our Halston trademark customers service."
