POLICE and the ambulance service attended an incident that caused standstill traffic.
Traffic entering Devonshire Street from Victoria Viaduct was at a standstill due to an incident that saw an immediate response from Cumbria police and the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).
On the scene, a person, a man in his 60s, was lying on the ground in the middle of the road of Devonshire Street after colliding with a bus.
Drivers attempting to enter Devonshire Street via Victoria Viaduct were being told to turn around.
A spokesperson from Cumbria police said the collision between the bus and pedestrian was reported to them by North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) at 5:48pm yesterday (January 5), and they were taken to Cumberland Infirmary for checks.
They added that it didn't cause any apparent life-threatening or life-changing injuries.
A spokesperson from NWAS said they took a call at 5:41pm yesterday to reports of a road traffic collision (RTC) involving a bus and a pedestrian.
They sent an ambulance and rapid response vehicle (RRV) to the scene and treated the patient.
They also said he was not seriously injured.
A motorist who was travelling through the area at the time, attempting to access Devonshire Street, said traffic was flowing usually until a bus stopped and put on its hazard lights.
They then were approached by a man who said that they needed to turn around, and who told other drivers to do the same.
