A PLANNING application has been put forward to change the use of vacant office space into six flats in Carlisle

The proposed scheme looks to turn the office space on Chatsworth Square into six fully-facilitated bedroomed flats.

The application was submitted to Carlisle City Council by Day Cummins Ltd on December 23. 

No 7 Chatsworth Square was formely the Carlisle branch of the NSPCC. 

The Design Access statement reads: "The proposed scheme divides the property into 6no Flats in total with two flats per floor. Each flat is one bedroomed. With full facilities of Kitchen, dining, living and bathroom/shower room. All existing walls remain in position apart from some newly inserted partitions by previous occupant to staircase which are to be removed.

"There are a number of openings to be infilled and some new lightweight partitions installed to form internal spaces. A new rear door will form an entrance lobby and is to be located where an existing window currently resides."

Externally, the existing concrete yard is to be removed to create a gravelled garden space as an entrance to the flats. 

Built over a relatively short time span of around 1870 to 1880 in a limited palette of materials mainly brick, stone and slate there is a regularity to the street scene.

In the application's Heritage Statement, it reads: "There is no intention to add or alter the front façade of no 7, thereby maintaining the look of Victorian solidity and ensuring the townscape of the square is maintained."
