A west Cumbrian artist will feature in a competition that will air on Sky Arts this week. 

Nanette Madan, of Gosforth, is a figurative and landscape artist is participating in the latest Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year series 8 competition. 

She was approached by Storyvault films to take part in the series and was selected as a wild card artist.

She then travelled to the north pier at Blackpool where the weather being cold, wet and windy despite this being back in June. 

Ms Madan said: "My recent participation in Sky Arts Landscape Artist of the Year as a wildcard artist took me to the city of a thousand dreams, Blackpool, I would liken my experience to a marathon rollercoaster ride, full of thrills and spills.

"I am more than a little nervous ahead of the airing of the debut episode of series 8 and although I am dutybound to not reveal any juicy details, I can say that it was a truly special event that I will never forget. I would encourage any budding artist to apply because you never know where it might take you. 

"I would also like to do a big shout out to my amazing superhuman friend, Deborah Reekie, who came along to feed, water and provide me with moral support and all this while she was in a huge amount of pain following an accident."

Nanette has a number of exhibitions coming up around Cumbria this year. In May she will ba at Gallery 4a in Gosforth in Penrith which is run by Eden Valley Artistic Network. The exhibition title, 'Roman Imprint' was organised by artist Elli Logan-Airey. 

In September she will be at Florence Arts Centre for the Eden Valley Artistic Network Open Studios. 

In August she will visit Lowes Court Art Gallery in Egremont and from September into October she will be at The Sawmill Cafe and Farm Shop in Nether Wasdale. 

The winner will receive a £10,000 commission from Royal Museums Greenwich. The programme is hosted by dream team Joan Bakewell and Stephen Mangan.

The judges are a star cast of respected art historians, curators, writers and broadcasters, Kate Bryan and Kathleen Soriano, as well as famous portrait artist and current Head of Painting at the Art Academy in London, Tai-Schan Schierenberg.
