AN intoxicated woman kicked a police officer in the stomach after she was handcuffed and her two pet dogs tried to leave a Carlisle address with her.
The city’s magistrates’ court heard how the female PC and a colleague attended an incident at Bannisdale Way on November 30 last year.
After occupant Danika Robson, 28, was arrested, the officer allowed her to stroke a dog as they made their way down some stairs.
But prosecutor George Shelley told the court she became upset.
“It was at that point that the defendant has kicked out at the PC to the stomach, making contact and causing her to stumble down three steps on the staircase,” said Mr Shelley.
“Fortunately no injury was caused.” The officer was able to steady herself and Robson was led away.
In court, she admitted a charge of assaulting an emergency worker by beating.
Robson, of Bannisdale Way, was last convicted in 2018 with a number of her 16 previous offences being committed “against the person”.
Lauren Heasley, defending, sought to explain what had happened when police arrived at the flat.
It was seen that her partner had a scratch to his neck while Robson had a bloodied face.
“They had both been drinking alcohol. Neither would tell what had happened,” said Miss Heasley.
The couple were separate and the second police officer, dealing with the man, concluded street triage intervention was required.
It was then suggested his injury was caused by Robson, who was arrested and handcuffed. “She was upset by this and this changed her demeanour very quickly,” said Miss Heasley, who added that her two dogs were present.
“It would appear they were trying to leave with Miss Robson. This obviously upset her. Intoxicated and upset, she accepts that she lashed out.
“She says she has respect for the emergency services, indeed they have helped her on previous occasions.”
After hearing personal mitigation, District Judge John Temperley asked for the probation service to prepare a pre-sentence report providing more detail about her background before she is punished.
He adjourned the case. Robson is due to be sentenced at the court on February 2 and in the meantime was bailed.
