FOR this weeks edition of nostalgia, we have looked back at the plays and musicals that have been performed in our area over the years.
The year of 2023 promises to provide us with some new musicals such as Stiles and Drewe's The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the UK premiere will be in spring under the direction of Justin Audibert. Cake, based off the famous 18th-century French queen Marie Antoinette launches in 2023. As well as the new Winnie the Pooh musical, after success in America, the musical is coming to the UK in March. Spongebob the musical arrived in the UK from July and stars original songs from the likes of Panic! at the Disco, Cyndi Lauper, Sara Bareilles and John Legend.
In 2022, a whole host of fresh musicals entered the scene such as Into the Woods, which was only supposed to be a limited revival. However, the production brought in so many audience members that the theatre decided to extend the revival until early January 2023 to keep the show alive. Sweeney Todd started preview for the show in early 2022 and a formal Opening begins on March 26, 2023.
Today’s nostalgia section takes a look at amateur productions across North Cumbria throughout the years, many of the performances are not necessarily the classics you would expect such as the Green Room's 1979 production of 'Relatively Speaking, 'Wild Goose Chase', a 1975 production by the Brampton Players or 'Hello Dolly', perfromed by the Musical Society in 1980.
Many photos show the theatre groups dress rehearsals as they prepare for the big day on stage.
Did you attend any of these threatre groups or did you see any of these productions from them?
