Carlisle United have announced their fourth signing of the January transfer window.

Joe Garner, joining from Fleetwood Town, returns for his fourth spell at the club .

In his previous time at Brunton Park, Garner scored 28 goals in 65 appearances, translating to almost a goal every other game.

After the success of his inital loan at the Blues from Blackburn in 2007, Garner would join Carlisle in the following season before moving on to play for clubs like Nottingham Forest, Watford and Rangers.

Garner is undoubtedly a successful striker who has scored plenty of goals for the Blues in the past, but what will he bring in his fourth spell at the club?

Using WhoScored.com we found out.

This season until his Carlisle homecoming, Garner has made 24 appearances for Fleetwood Town, finding the net three times.

However, in most of these games, Garner has been utilised as an impact sub.

At Carlisle this season, Kristian Dennis has been the striking talisman, scoring 15 goals in 26 appearances, with his performance being the bar at the Blues.

However, when compared, what Garner could bring in a partnership with Carlisle's prolific goalscorer becomes apparent.

While Dennis bosses the scoring stats, Garner is not far behind when it comes to creating chances.

This season so far Dennis has averaged 0.6 key passes per game, whilst the sparingly used Garner averaged 0.4 key passes per game, showing an ability to impact a game.

In addition Garner also draws more fouls on average per game than Kristian Dennis with the returning striker drawing 0.7 fouls per game compared to Dennis' 0.6 per game.

This is evidence of the fact that Garner will be in the face of his opponents and for a side like Carlisle that has excelled from set pieces this season, this could be a potent match.

Garner also brings with him a vast wealth of EFL experience, something that will be vital around the Carlisle squad as the Blues push on this season with hopes of play-offs and even promotion.
