A COMEDIAN'S tale of his experience gigging in Carlisle has gone viral on TikTok.
Paul Smith shared his one-of-a-kind experience involving a heckler at one of his previous gigs at the Sands Centre on the TankdUp Podcast last week.
The Liverpudlian and former graphic designer described a story which took place back in 2021.
Funnyman Smith recounted the moment in which a heckler was approached by security to keep the noise down to let the show continue uninterrupted... when she reacted with physical violence and 'headbutted' one of the security guards.
At this point, Paul said the entire Carlisle crowd jeered 'Out!' as security ushered the woman out of the venue.
Amusingly however, the comedian said her husband was one of people in the crowd who remained.
The video currently has over 520,000 views, with over 36,000 likes.
On the social media platform, many commenters and gig-goers who attended the night have poked fun at both the city and the night itself.
Demi-jade McGee wrote: "We were at this show, it was brilliant."
Tealy said: "That's tame to be honest, Paul needs a night out on Botchergate."
Joe Morewood also said: "Big up the Carlisle."
On the matter, a spokesperson for GLL said: "Our venues are for everyone to enjoy and we do not condone violent or disruptive behaviour in line with our policy and procedures.
"We are aware of the incident that happened back in November 2021 and at the time advised the third party security contractor (Elda Security Solutions Ltd.) that they could contact the police if they wanted to make a formal complaint. No arrest was made.
"Paul Smith’s most recent visit in January 2023 was a huge success and enjoyed by all that attended.
"The Sands Centre remains a hugely popular venue at the heart of the region, with customers returning in ever greater numbers since Covid and a difficult few years for the entertainment industry.
"There is lots to look forward to in 2023 – including forthcoming shows like David Walliams’s ‘Demon Dentist’, Richard E Grant, Matt Pagan & Friends (in aid of Eden Valley Hospice) & Broadway & West End smash hit ‘Shrek The Musical’," they said.
