PUPILS at a Workington primary school learnt about what it is like to be a journalist earlier this week, to support their English topic on writing articles.
Westfield Primary School pupils in Year 6 had a visit from Times & Star reporter Bridget Dempsey, who spoke to the children about what it is like to be a journalist in the local area, her favourite things about the job and how they could write their articles within the English topic they are studying.
The children asked all kinds of questions such as 'What's the hardest story you have ever written?' and enjoyed looking at stories about Workington's Uppies and Downies that have been written over the last year.

Bridget said: "It was amazing to see how enthusiastic the pupils were about their class topic and answer all the fantastic questions they had to ask about journalism.
"The pupils listened really well to all the ways we work to write stories at the Times & Star and I am sure their articles will all be very interesting to read when they finish their topic."
Year 6 teacher Jack Adams said: "It was really good and valuable for the children to have a real journalist in the school talking about what it’s like to report and write newspaper articles.
"It was great to see the enthusiasm in the children who were all really interested about what goes on in the town and bring the topic to life for them."
