Staff and volunteers in Carlisle were surprised to receive a quality, working 90s stereo system to their British Heart Foundation (BHF) furniture and electrical store.
The vintage stereo system was complete with a cassette deck, compact disc player, turntable system, and amplifiers. It was placed for auction on the BHF eBay page, starting at £49.99. The item clocked 59 bids over 5 days, with the winner bidding £820.52.
Mark Harbertson, Assistant Manager at the BHF, said: “Charity shops are great for finding nostalgic, retro items that you can’t find elsewhere, and we are thrilled that this Hi-Fi system was so popular.
“It's great to have raised money from such a unique item donated to our Carlisle store.
“We can’t carry out our vital research without generous donations like this from the public. We always welcome quality, preloved items to our stores – it’s only through these donations that we can fund research to find new treatments and cures for heart and circulatory conditions.”
