Police have cleared a city-centre street after they blocked access to it to arrest a teenager on suspicion of rape.

Access to Collier Lane in Carlisle and the Carlisle Railway Station car park was blocked by police vehicles, spotted this morning.

It was initially unclear what the police were doing at this time, or why they were obstructing access to the areas.

A witness said it appeared to be a serious incident.

The police have since released a public appeal for information relating to today's incident.

A teenager, aged 16, was arrested on suspicion of an incident of rape that was reported at 6:08am today (February 11) in the area of Carlisle Railway Station.
