A new low-price supermarket opened its doors on Saturday(February 11).
Home Bargains has opened its second Carlisle branch today, with this one being its first one with customer parking, located in Kingstown.
With the car park fuller than usual, customers flocked to the store to pick up household items and groceries at lower-than-usual prices.
The 20,538 sq. ft store offers products including homewares, health and beauty essentials, sweets, snacks and drinks, as well as fresh and frozen food.
The supermarket was full of customers, as manager Rachel Emmens commented on the successful opening day: “It’s been really really good.
“We’ve had people queuing outside this morning, everyone’s very excited.
“We’ve had lots of praise for the staff so far, obviously everybody loves the brand new clean new store.”
This new store has gathered a lot of attention in the run-up to its official opening, and is the first of its kind for the city, in that it is the only Home Bargains in the area that can be driven to properly, as Rachel added: “I think that’s been one of the selling points of our store, the parking, that’s what we’ve had a lot of people say today.
“The small store in the bus station is fantastic but this is something that people can come to and get those bigger items.”
Home Bargains donated £2,000 to Cumbria Cerebral Palsy this morning (February 11) as part of their official opening, and they had a ribbon-cutting ceremony to kick it off.
Rachel added that roughly 3,000 transactions are expected for the opening day, bigger than usual given the circumstances of it being an anticipated event, but this store is expected to continuously see sales in the thousands each week.
The new store is part of a £1million investment, and 51 jobs in the local area are said to have been created, 61 in total.
Opening approximately 50 stores a year, Home Bargains said it is bucking current trends in the industry.
