A LOCAL arts organisation has received £5000 from the Cumbria Community Foundation.

The Laal Collective, which is based in Wigton, has been celebrating the awarding of the funding which will support their Stories from the Kitchen table project.

This funding will open up new spaces on the programme for those who are unable to afford a place at present.

Stories from the Kitchen table is a studio based programme that works with adults with learning disabilities in Wigton as they create stories through drawing, conversation, drama and puppetry.

This project aims to reduce the isolation, particularly for these adults with learning disabilities, with confidence building at it's core.

Ali McCaw, co-director of The Laal Collectice said: "Stories are fundamental to people of all ages and cultures. They tell us who we are, give us social boundaries, give us understanding of people and their communities and above all they give us a way to explore our emotions, particularly laughter."

"The funding provided by Cumbria Community Foundation is vital to keeping our service running." Vicki Maxfield, co-director of The Laal Collective added.

"With the rise in cost of living and cuts to budgets, people are struggling to access what they need.

"This funding allows us to have open conversations with people and offer places to people who have limited or zero budget"
