THE HEADTEACHER of a local primary school has said that he is 'really pleased' with their latest Ofsted rating.

Great Orton primary school was awarded a new rating of good after an inspection on Tuesday, January 10 and Wednesday, January 11.

This rating was an upgrade on the school's previous Ofsted inspection in June 2019 which labelled the school as requires improvement.

The Ofsted report that awarded the new rating found that the school's overall effectiveness, quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management were all good.

The report said: "Pupils are proud to be part of this small school family. They are polite, friendly and respectful. Pupils look after one another and make sure that everyone is included in school life."

The report also cited a noticeable improvement at Great Orton school since the last Ofsted inspection.

They said: "The school has improved significantly since the last inspection. Leaders have introduced a new curriculum.

"This is organised effectively so that pupils learning in mixed-age or whole-key-stage classes can achieve well.

"Leaders and teachers are ambitious for all pupils."

Also in the report, Ofsted listed recommendations of where the school can improve.

These included, bringing in a wider range of books for older pupils in key stage 2 and ensuring that students can quickly catch up on any gaps in their learning so that they can benefit from the school's new curriculums.

Great Orton headteacher Matthew Walker, who became head in September 2022, has overseen the latest period of growth and improvement for the school.

Reacting to the latest Ofsted rating he said: "Excellent, really pleased with it. It is what the school deserves and reflects the quality of education we have."

Mr Walker has also seen the number of pupils at the school increase from 19 when he joined in September to 30 at present, with it hoped that the new good rating will draw in more students.

He said: "It is a real important thing that we got good and we are so pleased.

"We can start to plan ahead with the security that we have the quality of education to deliver."
