A CUMBRIAN nursery has had its registration suspended due to 'concerns' about children's safety while further investigation takes place.

Shining Stars Nursery will be closed until further notice, education watchdog Ofsted has said, whilst it looks into concerns.

It is not yet known when the nursery will re-open, with the suspension set to be reviewed in due course.

It is an offence to continue to provide daycare while under investigation by the watchdog.

A spokesman for Ofsted said: "We have suspended the nursery’s registration due to concerns over their ability to keep children safe.

"We are looking into these concerns and will review the suspension in due course."

A previous inspection rating from Ofsted rated the premises as 'good' back in January 2020.

At the time of the 2020 inspection, the nursery was providing day care to 50 pupils, providing free early education for two, three and four-year-old children.

A letter provided to nursery parents earlier this week, and seen by the News & Star, has said that the nursery will provide information to parents as soon as they 'have answers'.

The letter says it is with a 'heavy heart' that the nursery is closed and adds: "It is with such a heavy heart that I, we are writing to let you know that unfortunately until further notice the nursery is now closed whilst under investigation from Ofsted."

"I know you have a lot of questions and as soon as I have answers we will let you know."

"You are the nursery's priority but at the moment things are out of our hands."

Shining Stars Nursery has been approached for comment.
