A BRAMPTON man has been put on the Sex Offender Register after he admitted two allegations involving indecent child images.
At Carlisle Crown Court, Jon Bamkin, 29, entered guilty pleas to two allegations: that during the year up to September 30, 2021, he downloaded two Category C indecent photographs of children; and a second offence which involved him distributing indecent photos of children.
He committed the second offence during the same time period.
Defence barrister Judith McCullough, for Bamkin, said that the distribution offence related to admissions the defendant made in his police interview, involving indecent child images of Category C and B.
The defendant's offending did not involve the most serious class of indecent child image, Category A, said the barrister.
Judge Ian Unsworth KC said that, given the nature of the offences and the defendant's admissions, he accepted that a background report should be prepared on Bamkin by the Probation Service.
Adjourning the sentencing hearing to March 17, the judge told the defendant, of Dacre Road, Brampton: “Clearly, this is a serious matter and it’s vital and in your interests that you cooperate with the Probation Service…
"Your bail will be extended as before.”
As he concluded the case, Judge Unsworth told Bamkin that his name will now be entered on to the Sex Offender Register. How long it will remain there will depend on the sentence that Bamkin ultimately receives.
The judge added: “I certify that you have been convicted of a sexual offence so you must, for a period to be determined on March 17, keep the police informed at all times of your personal particulars, your address, and any alteration in the name you are using.”
The defendant spoke during the 15-minute hearing only to confirm his personal details and to enter his pleas.
